A1. If I employ an apprentice, do I have to pay National Insurance. From 6th April 2016 an employer with an apprentice under the age of 25 on a salary of less than £43,000  has not needed to pay the NI for that apprentice. For full details click this link to the government web site.

A2. How long does an Apprenticeship take to complete? Typically between 12 to 18 months.It is dependant on how much time the candidate can give to their training and their own personal ability.

A4. What is the difference between an Apprenticeship and an NVQ? An NVQ is a National Vocational Qualification and is a qualification specifically aimed at the job or trade that the learner is employed in. An Apprenticeship however includes an NVQ within its structure and also includes additions training in Functional Skills, Maths and English plus some additional help in other areas related to the job or profession that the learner is engaged in. A5. How old do I have to be to do an apprenticeship? Apprenticeships are available to any one over the age if 16. As long as you are employed and working at a level equal to or higher than the Apprenticeship that you want to do. There are no upper limits to your age.

A6. Do I have to come into college each week to do an Apprenticeship or NVQ? No, all of your training will be done in the work place.

A7. If I am doing an Apprenticeship and I leave or loose my job will I be able to continue my training? To do an Apprenticeship or NVQ you must be in employment (either paid or voluntary), if you leave your loose your job and you are close to finishing we may still be able to complete your training with you. If you are quite a long way from completion, we will do our best to help you to get back into suitable employment so that you can finish you training.

A8. If I am doing an Apprenticeship or NVQ and have to take long tem leave for sickness or pregnancy, can I continue my training? Yes, we will put your training on hold for you so that when you return to work you can restart you training.

A9. Do you offer AAT Training? No we are only an Examination Centre for AAT qualifications. If you are looking for AAT training we recommend Accountancy Learning in Exeter who's web site is http://www.accountancylearning.co.uk/.

A10. How do I book an AAT exam? Contact jon@paigntonsec.com or phone  on 01803 559816 to book the time and date. We will need form you your AAT registration number and your date of birth together with the name of the examination that you would like to take. When you come to the college to take the exam you will need to bring with you at least 1 form of photo ID such as a driving licence or passport. A11. Is funding available for my qualification? Paignton Sec is approved as a registered organisation authorised to deliver government funded work based training. The funding covers the cost of the training and assessment process delivered by Academy. The current funding schemes under which Academy can deliver are; Apprenticeships, Adult Skills Budget and Traineeships. For more information contact Sarah on sarah@paigntonsec.com. A12. How much funding is available for my training? The amount of funding (100% / 50%) depends on the individuals age and the qualification they would like to undertake. Paignton Sec can assist both the employer and learner to access the maximum funding available and complete all the relevant paperwork.

A13.Does the college have car parking? Yes we have a small car park however it can only take about 8 cars so it is often full. There are a lot of car parks close by but be aware that parking on the road is restricted to 1 hour and the traffic warden do patrol often so please do not park on the road unless you can be sure of moving your car within 1 hour.

A17. Is there disabled access to the college? Yes there is disabled access to the college. It will help you and us if you can let us know in advance when you are expecting to visit the college so that we can have someone meet you to assist you.
